Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program

The Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program is a government initiative to encourage responsible management of privately owned woodlots. Landowners who participate in a forest management planning process are eligible for significant property tax reductions of 75% on the forested portions of the property. To enroll in the program, a 10 year forest management plan must be prepared, approved by a “managed forest plan approver,” and submitted to the Ministry. A minimum of 9.88 acres of forest is required, and the land must be owned by either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a Canadian business. Once enrolled, landowners agree to follow the plan that has been prepared, and must submit a progress report on the 5th year of the plan. For more information, see the government’s website.

Watson Forestry Service is certified by the ministry as a “managed forest plan approver,” and works with landowners to create a plan uniquely tailored to them, and their property. As part of the program, we conduct a site visit, create a full property inventory, numerous maps, and work with landowners to determine suitable activities to achieve their management goals.

Prices vary by property size, and the details of what is requested by the landowner. Contact us today for a free quote!
